Attention Mechanism - What is the attention mechanism of the brain?

Subcortical scanning of important and emotionally charged sensory inputs via the pain, tension, and pleasure systems is the first step in the brain's attention process. The Thalamic-Prefrontal-Thalamic reflex inhibits the transmission of these impressions to the Thalamus, where they undergo further scanning and eventual concentrating on a single sensory modality.
