Automata Theory - Who proposed automata theory?

It is widely believed that Norbert Wiener and Alan M. Turing are the primary authors of Automata Theory, which lays out the physical and logical rules that govern the operation of any electromechanical device. Automatons are machines that take in data and, according to an algorithm, either change it into another form or do something.
