Automated Reasoning - What is an example of machine reasoning?

Natural language processing (NLP) is a good example of a field that uses machine reasoning. "There was one passenger on the plane" and "There was ice on the plane" both signify something different, but a well-trained NLP system that uses machine reasoning might tell them apart.
