Backward Chaining - What is backward chaining with example?

Backward chaining involves breaking down a skill into smaller steps, teaching and reinforcing the last step in the sequence first, then the second last step, and so forth. For instance, you could ask a child to wash their hands in the sink near the toilet, providing a reinforcer upon completion.
