Darkforest - What is the plot of the dark forest?

The Trisolarans are an extraterrestrial race that Earth encounters in this book. Their solar system is unstable and has three sun-like stars. In order to preserve their own civilisation, the Trisolarans in The Dark Forest have decided to wipe humans off the face of the earth.
