Deep Learning - What is the idea of deep learning?

Deep learning is a subfield of machine learning that gradually extracts high-level characteristics from low-level input using layers of the algorithm. When processing images, for instance, lower-level layers may be responsible for detecting edges, while higher-level layers might be responsible for recognizing concepts that are significant to humans, like numbers, letters, or faces.
