What differentiates "human-on-the-loop" from "human-in-the-loop" when engaging with a software agent is the amount of control and initiative demonstrated by the user. An example of a "human-on-the-loop" setup would be a person supervising the execution while a software agent takes care of the communication. Conversely, a "human-in-the-loop" contact is one in which a human remains active while an agent in software offers assistance.
