The football club derives its name from Ajax the Great, a renowned hero in Greek mythology who features in 'The Iliad'. Ajax fought in the Trojan War alongside his cousin, Achilles. His life ended by his own hand, using the sword of the defeated Trojan prince, Hector, thereby remaining 'unbeaten' till the end.
