Category - What is an example of category?

For instance, let's take a set of items: dust particles, papers, a computer screen, two pens, a mug, and an orange. What's the commonality among them? They all are present on my desk as I'm writing this. This group of items can be seen as a category, a collection of objects that share a certain equivalence.
