Routing - Is it routing or rooting for a team?

'Rooting' is the proper way to express your support for a sports team. 'Root' may mean both the subterranean portion of a plant and the process of digging something up with one's nose. Conversely, a "route" is a way to go from one place to another. 'Rout' is derived from 'root,' hence it may be used interchangeably with 'root' when describing a crushing loss.
