Group 4 Compression - What are the disadvantages of LZW compression?

Due to its reliance on ASCII, typical LZW compression has two major limitations: first, it cannot efficiently compress non-repetitive data; and second, the initial dictionary length is static at 256. With some tweaks to the design, though, these drawbacks won't be as bad.
