Alert - Is an alert a warning?

In essence, an alert is typically a signal designed to draw the user's attention to a certain issue or event. For example, a phone might vibrate to alert the user that their attention is needed. A warning, on the other hand, is generally associated with the potential repercussions of an action (or lack thereof). Warnings can be given before or during an action, but not commonly after it.
