Slotting Optimization - What is the difference between slotting and planning?

Although both shaping and planning include the tool and workpiece interacting in some manner, the two processes are distinct. The tool feeds the workpiece into it in a reciprocating action during slotting. In contrast, planning involves vertical tool feeding into a workpiece that is in a reciprocating motion. A forward-working or cutting stroke and an idle-return stroke are the steps involved in slotting.
