Garry Kasparov, the reigning world chess champion, and Deep Blue, IBM's supercomputer, played two sets of six games each. In 1996, the first encounter took place in Philadelphia, and Kasparov came out on top, 4-2. With a score of 3½-2½, Deep Blue prevailed in the 1997 rematch that took place in New York City.
