Asynchronous Learning - What is the difference between asynchronous and synchronous learning?

The term "synchronous learning" describes a classroom setting in which both teachers and students are present and engaged in "real-time" communication. Students engage in asynchronous learning when they may access course materials at their leisure and communicate with one another over extended periods of time.
