The ALTER TABLE and CREATE INDEX commands allow you to apply full-text indexing to existing tables or define it when you create a new one. The syntax for performing full-text searches is MATCH()... AGAINST. The 'Full-Text Search Functions' section (12.9) goes into further depth on this topic.
